This May will see Barbados hosting the Sustainable Tourism Conference (STC), organized by the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO). There is growing interest in the STC, as its importance in promoting and maintaining tourism and its environmental impact on the islands becomes a Caribbean priority. Delegates on this beautiful Island will be exposed to international leaders in their fields who will share their ideas and experiences and practical ways of utilizing them.

The region’s premiere international gathering on sustainable tourism is back. The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) will hold its Caribbean Conference on Sustainable Tourism Development, otherwise known as the Sustainable Tourism Conference (STC), after a one-year absence due to the global economic crisis.

The Barbadian Neil Walters has been confirmed as director of finance and resource management while his compatriot, Winfield Griffith, is the new director of research and information technology.

The CTO UK Chapter has now released its 52-page 2010 “Guide to the Caribbean”. The team’s UK Chapter will, in the coming weeks, be launching the full color, glossy, A4 publication, circulating it to 50,000 consumers and members of the travel trade.

Canadians will find a taste of the Caribbean in Toronto and Montreal this fall when Caribbean Week in Canada returns for its third year, Oct. 23 to Nov. 1. Organized by the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO), Caribbean Week in Canada brings together the most influential policy makers, financial leaders, marketing professionals and tourism industry officials to interact and discuss both tourism and investment opportunities in the region. It also serves to provide a taste of the region to inspire travel and showcase its diversity.

The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) has confirmed Barbadian Hugh Riley as its new secretary general. The announcement was made last week by CTO’s chairman, John Maginley, who described Riley as an experienced Caribbean tourism professional with a clear vision of how to advance the region’s tourism industry.

“Holding this conference, in light of today’s global climate, would have been expensive and difficult,” said John Maginley, chairman of the Caribbean Tourism Organization, sponsor of the CTC. Maginley also is minister of tourism for Antigua and Barbuda .
